Glaring Omission
Last night on American Idol the slaves performed songs from Queen. As is tradition the show started with a vignette paying homage to the featured artist of the week. Naturally when one speaks of Queen really one is speaking of the outrageous, the talented, the captivating, the flamboyant Freddy Mercury. Obviously Freddy is no longer with the band therefore, I found it odd that they neglected to mention how Freddy Mercury died.
I'll say it here for those that don't know, he died from complications due to AIDS.
Fuck you American Idol.

I didn't know... what a missed opportunity on FOX's part to educate the.. oh wait, I just said an opportunity for FOX network? Haha, doh, I guess that explains it.

I'm not surprised. I don't think that people like to think of him as gay. Besides, if you admit that he died of complications from AIDS, that would be giving him a real sexuality and not some castrated Queer Eye non-threatening bull.
Quick follow up: Not to say that you only die from AIDS if you're gay. But it does show the complacency in the media yet again.
God I remember the day Freddie died. I lived in London. I think it was the first high profile AIDS death in the UK. We were all in shock for weeks. I just went and bought some Queen tracks on iTunes - thanks to Idol I'm planning to have a Freddie session at some point over the weekend...
I noticed it and my partner and I wondered the excact same thing. It IS the FOX network though so what is to be expected.
At least Bucky FINALLY got the ax!
