Yes Mommie Dearest

There are always unusual conversations in the lunch room where I work. I think it has something to do with the fact that there are many people from foreign countries where I work. There majority of people where I work are not from the United States. Therefore there is a melding of cultural philosophies mixed with misinterpretations of english words that produce these conversations.

Today a topic was brought by a young woman (whose nationality I will not disclose) where she asked if you could sell your baby if you didnt like it. She asked because she saw a couple while she was out over the weekend that had two children and she thought one was cute and the other was really ugly. She wondered then if you could sell your child if you didn't think it was going to be smart, or if you thought it would grow up to obnoxious, or any other kind of unforseen unpleasant contingency that comes with parenthood.

She then started to express that she felt that behavioral and intellectual outcomes of a child are hardwired into their DNA and that some of them you just cant teach so you would have not choice but to sell them to someone who would want them. She said that if she was going to have a child she would want it to be pretty, smart, and obedient.

After hearing her thought process aloud we all agreed that she should take steps to not become pregnant nor should she consider ever adopting a chid.
